Yummy recipe- Crock pot Corned Beef

So I'm late for St. Patty's day...But, if you are like me and stocked up on corned beef when they were cheap this last week, you've got a couple socked away in the back of the freezer!

Corned Beef in the Crock Pot

  • 1 2-3 lb Corned beef, rinsed (throw away the package of spices)

  • 1 jar of stone ground mustard

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

  1. Place corned beef in crock pot

  2. In a small bowl, mix together remaining ingredients

  3. Pour mixture over corned beef

  4. Cook on low for 8-10 hours.

Serve with Boiled little red potatoes, boiled green cabbage and corn on the cob!  Cooking it in a crockpot makes a great au jus- it's good on the meat or poured over potatoes. Makes about 4-6 servings.

It's also great on bread as a sammich!

Question for ya'll

I'm trying to find some extra cash in the budget to buy my domain and move my blog to another provider that allows ads, so I can make some money*.  I promise I won't sell out or fill my blog with ads, but I'd like to be able to offer some better giveaways, like CASH MONEY!! Having my own domain will also open me up to more opportunities with sponsorship.

So my question to you all is: Would ya'll come with me if I moved to my own domain?

*FYI: I'm not going to make a million dollars, and if I do, I'll share it with you all.  Promise.

I went Shopping: Kohl's

I'm late in posting this... My camera was MIA for a few weeks.  The kid was playing with it and he "put it away" in a safe spot.

I received a $10 Kohl's Coupon good off a purchase of $10 or more from a friend.  So I packed up the Small Man and we hit the road.

For those who have never shopped at Kohl's, you have to.  Their sale prices are crazy good, and there are always deals, clearance racks, and coupons emailed and in the Sunday paper.  When you sign up to receive their emails, they'll also email you a $5.00 off your next purchase coupon.

Oh, yeah!!  The kid's clothes were on clearance, but it turns out that there was sale on top of that, so the prices were lower and I needed a filler to get to $10.00, so I grabbed a piece of jewelry on super mega clearance!

Like sharing free stuff with others?

Word of Mouth Marketing- It's not new.  Remember the "I told two friends, and they told two friends" commercial from the 1980's? That's word of mouth marketing.  Since the invention of the internet, WOM marketing has been amplified.

There are companies that connect consumers with companies and products looking to market directly to a specific cross-section of the population.  What does that mean for you?  Sign up with one or all of the companies below and when they have products that someone like you would like and use, and they will have you complete a brief survey and send you the product.

Often times, the product they will send you will be full size.  Additionally, they will send marketing materials with talking points for you to share with friends.  Depending on the product, samples and coupons may be included!

WOM companies I work with are:

BzzAgent

Houseparty

Smiley360

I encourage you to check these companies out and if they look interesting, sign up.  You'll be surprised at the cool stuff that you'll get to share with friends and family!

Coupon Previews- You can see the Future!

There are several websites that preview the weekly coupon inserts. However, there are regional differences due to product availability. There also may be slight differences in the value of each coupon. Most coupons received on the West Coast have a higher value, .50 or more each due to the increased cost of food.

http://www.taylortownpreview.com/

www.sundaycouponpreview.com/

Not all media outlets carry all of available the coupon inserts. In San Diego, We receive Smart Source (weekly), Proctor and Gamble AKA The P&G Saver (about once a month), General Mills Puts out a smaller insert with their brand specific coupons in it about once a month. The rest of the time their coupons will appear in the Smart Source circular.

Red Plum Coupons does not come in the newspaper in San Diego. It is delivered with the bulk mail on Mondays. Visit http://www.redplum.com/ and type in your address to see which local newspaper delivers the Red Plum Insert. In Southern California, it’s the LA Times.

Once you visit the coupon preview websites, you can visit Hotcouponworld or Afullcup and check out the forums dedicated to the drugstore or supermarket. Those sites have forums dedicated to future weeks sales. Employees have access to future sale flyers, usually only 2-3 weeks worth, and many of the employees of various stores are members of these sites and they scan them and post the scanned images (referred to as ad scans).

Members of the community will post “match-ups”, matching the items in the sale circulars with coupons that have already been published, or with coupons that will be published (with information from Taylor town or Sunday Coupon Preview).

You can plot your trip out in advance. Then when the ad goes “live”, Weds. morning for grocery stores and Sunday morning for drugstores, you can take your list, your fistful of coupons and shop until you drop.

Free groceries?

Ok, if you've watched THAT SHOW, you may be so excited by the idea of FREE GROCERIES, OMG!!!

I'll tell you how I get free groceries, and it's not super crazy shopping at 5 different stores and stacking coupons and eating weird processed foods... The secret is...

REBATES!!  We rebate around these parts.

Right now, these are some of the food rebates I'm working on:

Rebates require you to pay upfront, but in 8-12 weeks, you'll get a nice check for your OOP!

I complete the rebate forms and address my envelopes before my shopping trip, and as soon as I get home, I cut off any needed UPC's and circle the receipt (or highlight, whichever is required) and pop it into the mail.  I track my rebates in an Excel spreadsheet.

Do you rebate?
